Prada focuses on the classic skirt

For spring summer 2027, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons focused on a classic Prada garment: the skirt. The collection featured 63 looks, each with a skirt, showcasing the House’s ability to balance contradiction.

The skirts came in various styles, including severe pencil skirts, sheer and pleated iterations, and raw-edged constructions. Some were embellished with rhinestone flowers, adding a touch of elegance.

They paired lacy bralettes with high-slit skirts and frumpy sweaters with slouchy shirting, creating a sense of undone elegance. Oversized jackets added a masculine touch to delicate silhouettes.

The result was a collection that looked polished from a distance but progressively more unruly up close. The colour palette oscillated between greyish restraint and bursts of salacious colour, including emerald greens and red-hot reds.

Some of the most intriguing pieces were bralette-like tops made from shiny satin, wrapped around the arms or shoulders of models like a second skin. Tiny Prada coin purses in matching fabric were clipped onto these tops, adding a touch of whimsy.

The accessories continued the collection’s conversation between propriety and play. Bags were elongated and proper, while shoes were point-toed or open-toed, with occasional bows and floral embellishments.

The sunglasses, with their asymmetric and futuristic shapes, carried the spirit of the 1980s. The collection even produced a few signature 80s glam bouffants, adding to the overall sense of nostalgia and playfulness.

The show was presented at the Fondazione Prada, with a stripped-back setting that allowed the clothes to take center stage. The proposition was simple: take a familiar garment and explore it from every possible angle.

A skirt can be prim or provocative, severe or romantic, corporate or strange. According to Miuccia and Raf, it can be worn with a bra, a sweater, a jacket, or a button-down, making it a versatile and enduring piece of fashion.
