Sarah J. Maas will release two new books in her A Court of Thorns and Roses series. A Court of Splintered Harmony arrives October 27, 2026, followed by A Court of Forgotten Melody on January 12, 2027. A fourth installment is also planned.
The Return to Prythian After Eight Years
Maas shared the news during a nearly two-hour interview on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. The announcement arrives nearly eight years after the last full novel, A Court of Silver Flames, and five years after the novella A Court of Frost and Starlight. Fans had spent years speculating about the series’ future, but Maas explained the delay was necessary to develop the story properly.
“It’s been a long time coming,” she said. “Writing this took longer than expected.”

The A Court of Thorns and Roses series launched in 2015 and has sold over 70 million copies worldwide. It shares a fanbase with Maas’s other fantasy works, Throne of Glass and Crescent City. All three series feature strong women in magical settings, with subtle connections that have sparked theories about a shared universe. The upcoming books may finally address those hints.
What to Expect From the New Books
The synopses for A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody promise a darker Prythian. The first book centers on Koschei the Deathless, an ancient threat bound to a mountain lake for millennia. His return forces the Night Court to confront internal divisions while defending human lands from his allies.
“What was broken will be remade,” the synopsis reads. “The rifts dividing them seem insurmountable. But to defeat Koschei’s creeping shadow, they must find a way back to each other.”

A Court of Forgotten Melody escalates the conflict. Traditional alliances collapse, and the threat of Koschei the Deathless looms larger. “What was lost will be reclaimed,” the synopsis promises. Maas described the story as expansive—so much so that she divided it into four parts. The first two, Splintered Harmony and Forgotten Melody, will be released as standalone novels.
Who Will the Books Follow?
The first three A Court of Thorns and Roses books focused on Feyre Archeron. A Court of Silver Flames shifted to her sister Nesta and her mate, Cassian. The novella A Court of Frost and Starlight expanded to a third-person perspective, setting the stage for future installments. Maas hasn’t confirmed which characters will lead the new books.
The new books may explore fate, choice, and the cost of power. Readers can pre-order both titles through Bloomsbury.

What Comes After ACOTAR 7?
Maas isn’t finished with the A Court of Thorns and Roses world. She has contracts for two more books, though details about their structure remain unclear. Beyond that, she teased an unnamed project that has been developing for years.
“I think it’s going to be a very emotional book for me,” she told an outlet in 2024.
For now, fans have two years to prepare for A Court of Splintered Harmony. The wait may feel long, but Maas’s previous work suggests it will be rewarding.
