Denim has long been an American specialty, with brands like Levi’s and Wrangler leading the way. However, Swedish fashion industry veterans Lena Patriksson Keller and Jonas Clason believe there’s room for a European touch in the heritage denim market.
The duo launched Jeanerica in Sweden in 2018, and the brand is now scaling beyond Scandinavia. Patriksson Keller and Clason met while working at H&M‘s global buying office and later founded their first brand, Whyred, which they sold in 2011.
Patriksson Keller and Clason wanted to specialize in denim with Jeanerica, and they’ve taken a different approach than traditional American denim brands. “A typical European heritage thing is that you work very close to the whole production and business backend, you maybe even own your production facilities,” Patriksson Keller says.

They source fabrics in Türkiye and produce their jeans in Italy. The brand works closely with Isko Denim, the world’s largest denim producer, and has built a network of weavers, washhouses, and manufacturers.
Jeanerica’s core line includes a range of jean silhouettes, from the flared Kyoto to the oversized Belem and the relaxed Virgo. The brand also offers shirting and updated workwear jackets, and while newness is limited, with only 20-30% of each collection consisting of entirely new styles, they are focusing on honing and perfecting pairs that sell well.
The founders’ commitment to core styles is paying off, with a spike in sales over the last three years. Jeanerica hit SEK 130 million ($13.8 million) in fiscal 2025 and a 7% net profit margin, up 1.5% year-on-year.

“We come from Sweden, we are the country of Ikea and H&M — and there is no coincidence that you have those brands out of Sweden, because the whole idea that everything should be for everyone is in our DNA,” Patriksson Keller says.
The pair’s veteran status and Stockholm’s evolution as a fashion city are also proving helpful as they embark on Jeanerica’s international expansion. With elements of the American ethos imbued into the brand, it’s no wonder the Jeanerica founders are now looking Stateside, with plans to open stores in New York and London in the near future.
They will launch in London’s Liberty department store later this year, with a US activation to follow in 2027. This expansion will help them reach a wider audience and increase their presence in the global market.
