The Fragata holds 20 Duke-format cigars, each marked with a vitola band for easy identification during transit.

Montecristo has introduced the Fragata, a new travel humidor designed to carry its premium cigars into the world of transit and adventure. The product targets travelers who appreciate the experience of smoking a cigar while moving between locations, combining the brand’s 90-year history with a format suited for duty-free and travel retail environments.

The Fragata holds 20 Duke-format cigars, each measuring 54 x 40 mm and distinguished by a band identifying its specific vitola. Handcrafted entirely, these cigars use long-filler tobacco sourced from Vuelta Abajo in Pinar del Río, a region renowned for its high-quality Cuban tobacco. The humidor itself is built for ease of transport while maintaining the polished appearance expected of a premium brand.

The cigars offer a medium-to-strong flavor profile, beginning with a smooth, creamy introduction before unfolding into deeper notes of wood, leather, and coffee as they burn. This gradual flavor progression aligns with Montecristo’s established intensity, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to quality craftsmanship.

The name Fragata originates from Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo, evoking the ships that represent freedom and adventure. This thematic link strengthens the idea of the cigar as a companion for travel, fitting a brand long tied to both tradition and movement.

The launch aligns with Montecristo’s 90th anniversary, presenting the Fragata as an extension of its global narrative. The product made its debut at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes on September 29, 2026, positioning it as a bridge between Cuban heritage and the modern traveler’s lifestyle.

While premium cigars have long been associated with relaxation and leisure, the Fragata redefines them as part of the travel experience itself. The combination of portability, artistry, and storytelling makes it well-suited for duty-free shops, where travelers often seek compact luxuries to commemorate their journeys.

The humidor’s design and the cigars’ construction reflect how brands like Montecristo now connect with consumers who travel frequently. By linking the tradition of cigar enjoyment with the act of exploration, the Fragata transforms a static product into something flexible—one that adapts to the pace of discovery.

At the TFWA World Exhibition, the collection was presented as a tailored solution for the global duty-free market. The introduction highlights the rising interest in premium products designed for use while traveling, merging classic elements with the preferences of today’s travelers.
