A24’s You Can See Everything, a documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, has emerged as an unexpected contender for the year’s most unsettling film. The documentary, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, follows Holmes in the weeks before her prison sentence and beyond.

The film’s existence was kept secret until its festival debut. It chronicles Holmes’s life 34 days before her prison term, with filmmakers Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim capturing her final weeks of freedom. They continued filming for three more years.
The documentary’s trailer hints at a shift from a straightforward portrait of Holmes to a more complex psychological exploration. The filmmakers seem to have ventured into uncharted territory, as suggested by the official synopsis, which describes it as a “mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss”.
Elizabeth Holmes: From Billionaire to Convict
Holmes, the founder of Theranos, rose to prominence in Silicon Valley after dropping out of Stanford. She promised revolutionary medical technology, attracting $945 million in investments and a $9 billion valuation at its peak.
However, the technology failed to deliver, leading to Theranos’s collapse. Holmes was convicted of fraud and conspiracy, sentenced to 11 years in prison, and reported to a federal facility in May 2023.

The documentary explores themes of performance and authenticity, particularly through Fielder’s involvement. According to Vanity Fair, Fielder lived with Holmes and her husband during filming.
